TGIF 2/6/15

I am still working on the Daily posts for Summaries.

Today we had Music and PE first thing.

Then after recess we worked on equivalent fractions in math.  7-6 in Everyday Math.

Then we finished up our word work/spelling for the week.  Unit 21.

After lunch we spent an hour reading our AR books.  The class was very engrossed in their reading.  I love seeing that!

At the end of the day the class wrapped up their Book Advertisements.  I had some finishing up their posters.  While others were videoing their advertisements.  Looking forward to editing them next week with iMovie!

Have a great weekend!

Peterson Economy

Since my first year teaching, 12 years ago, I have implemented a classroom monetary system to help achieve a management system that has been very successful for me.  At the end of each quarter I hold an auction with $20 worth of items from the dollar store.  In typical auction form, the kids can pair up with another student who possesses a similar amount of cash.   The kids love it!  Then I collect all leftover money and then they start fresh with the new quarter.  Below I included the “Gives” and “Gets” the class abides by.  If you have any questions I would love to share my struggles and successes.

Monday February 2

Today was the start of a new week.

Weekly homework includes the following items that are all due Friday:

Bellwork 21
Edmodo Assignment
Reading Log
Daily Math Boxes
Spelling Unit 21
Write Source pages 40-43
AR Book Advertisement Video Completion

Today we started the day with our weekly Monday Assembly.  My son Everest received Math Master.  This is when the student masters the multiplication and division facts required by the district in the allotted time frame.

We began by organizing the new Bellworks for the week.  I will scan and upload an example of the Bellwork as an example.

Next in Math we took an assessment for Unit 6.

It was a specialist Art Day!

After Art, we took the Unit 20 Spelling Test and moved onto Unit 21 which concentrates on the schwa sound.

We switched up classroom jobs today and with that rotated seats too!

After lunch, in Reading, I spoke about THEMES.  Using the 3 Pigs as an example, I sent the kids out to research common book themes.  The class needed to write down 10 main themes and then decide which theme their current book possess.
After reading, the class continued their Book Advertisement work.  I will post progress pictures tomorrow.

After recess, our Kindergarten buddies visited the class.

We finished the day with the monthly Peterson Market place where the students can sell their own personal items or crafts for Peterson Class.

It was a great day, especially for a Monday : )

Today 1/29/15

Today we started the day with Bellwork 20.

We moved onto Math 7-3 which dealt with probabilities. The kids have Math Boxes 7-3 for homework tonight.

After Math we headed to Computer Lab and Library. We worked on our Edmodo assignment for the week.

We read The Lightning Thief before lunch.

During reading we continued our work on inferring in the text and then worked on our TV Advertisement ads for our Book Reports. Remember that your script and poster must be completed by the end of the day Friday.  We will begin filming on the iPads next week.

We then went to Art.

Next we took the Unit 19 Spelling Test and began Unit 20 Spelling which focuses on the endings -le and -en.
